Dolphins’ star Tyreek Hill’s home in Southwest Ranches catches fire

As Miami Dolphins’ star Tyreek Hill was at practice Wednesday afternoon, a part of his home in Southwest Ranches caught fire while family members were inside, but they all got out without injury, officials said.

Live video from several TV news outlets showed large waves of smoke billowing from one side of the mansion’s roof. After the smoke abated, the TV footage showed a large hole left behind. Hill was seen outside the home wearing a walking boot, talking with officials.

Davie Fire Rescue, Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue and Southwest Ranches crews responded to the blaze shortly before 2 p.m. People were inside when the fire began, but they were able to safely get out by the time units arrived, Davie Fire Rescue Fire Marshal Bob Taylor said. He did not immediately know how many people were there at the time.

The fire, which may have started in the attic, was largely extinguished as of about 4 p.m., Taylor said. Officials were still investigating Wednesday evening and did not have further information about the extent of the damage or the fire’s cause, he said. Davie Fire Rescue and the State Fire Marshal are investigating.

Firefighters were working on the second floor of the home, and by about 3 p.m. were extinguishing hotspots within the home after the smoke had largely subsided by then, according to radio communications archived by the streaming website Broadcastify.

One first responder said that while most of the smoke had cleared, crews were unsure whether there was “anything up there that could flare up.”

Hill was seen during a media viewing portion early in the team’s practice Wednesday. Practice was still ongoing at the time of the fire.

He left early after he was informed of the incident, a Dolphins spokesperson told reporters Wednesday afternoon.

Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus told reporters at the scene shortly before 5 p.m. that the blaze was contained to one room, though there will be other damage from smoke and water.

“Tyreek is going to be back with his teammates … He obviously raced over to make sure that everybody was OK, but everything is under control right now,” Rosenhaus said.

Rosenhaus told reporters the cause of the fire was not yet known.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa told reporters at his Wednesday news conference that he learned of the fire after practice and did not get to talk to Hill.

“I think that that would be difficult for, not just my teammates, but anyone in general, to be going through what Tyreek’s going through right now,” Tagovailoa said. “I think the main thing is his family is safe and his loved ones are good. He’s good, as well. I know it’s a little cliché to say, but those things like that, part of the house, some of those things can be replaceable, but you know, I’m just glad that a lot of his family members are safe.”

In June 2022, Hill posted a video on YouTube of him giving a tour of the home. It appears to be the same home that Zillow says was purchased in May 2022.

The address was sold on May 6, 2022, for $6.9 million to a Missouri limited liability company, which is associated with Hill’s lawyer, Broward County property appraiser and Department of State Division of Corporations records show.

The 9,326-square-foot home has seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, according to the listing on Zillow. The property includes a heated pool, a 10-person spa within the pool, outdoor summer kitchens, a putting green, a campfire, a basketball court and two guests houses.

Hill, 29, is in his second season with the Dolphins after spending his first six NFL seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2019, a championship run that was completed with the February 2020 Super Bowl victory in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium over the San Francisco 49ers.
