Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa wears Ohio State hoodie after lost bet on brother Taulia, Maryland

Ohio State vs. Maryland was a highly anticipated matchup heading into Week 6, with both teams undefeated (Ohio State 4-0, Maryland 5-0). The Buckeyes came away with a 37-17 win that was more competitive than the score suggests — much to the chagrin of Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa, whose brother Taulia helms the Terrapin offense, is enjoying a strong season with the Dolphins. Miami is 4-1 on the season, first in the AFC East, and hung 70 points on the Broncos in Week 3.

It appears Ohio State vs. Maryland sowed some discord in the Dolphins locker room (albeit lighthearted discord). Tua Tagovailoa made a bet with Dolphins defenders and Ohio State alumni Jerome Baker and Eli Apple that Maryland would pull off the upset, which turned out to be a regrettable decision.

As a result, Tua had to don an Ohio State hoodie in his media availability with Dolphins reporters on Wednesday:

While Tua didn't love having to wear the hoodie, he viewed it as a bonding experience with his teammates.

"A bet was lost to Jerome Baker and Eli Apple," Tagovailoa said. "Booooo. Bama didn't play. My brother played. He plays for Maryland. And so uh. ..."

When he was asked about points, Tagovailoa said it was a moneyline bet. "No they didn't give me points," he said. "I think they thought highly of Maryland's team. They were gonna wear Maryland gear. ... Sometimes that's how you win your team over guys. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, you know?"

Taulia Tagovailoa completed 21 of 41 passes for 196 yards, one passing touchdown, one rushing touchdown and two interceptions (including a Josh Proctor 24-yard interception return for touchdown, the Buckeyes' first score of the day).

Credit to Tua for taking the loss on the chin: Taking the Maryland bet straight up is supreme confidence in his brother. It didn't work out last week, but Apple and Baker were likely sweating out the first half at least.
