Dolphins LB Jerome Baker delivers message to fans after new contract

Sunday turned into quite the day for Miami Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker. Baker, who took part in the past several weeks of voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) and suggested to the South Florida media during a Friday press availability that he and the Dolphins had not had any conversations towards a contract extension, ended up signing a deal after all. A big one, too — Baker has inked a 3-year contract extension worth up to $39M over the course of the 2022, 2023 and 2024 seasons in Miami.

So either the Dolphins fast tracked a contract discussion in a matter of a few days or Baker and the Dolphins pulled a fast one on everyone.

But no matter how the Dolphins’ contract extension with Baker materialized, the deal is done and the ink is dry. Baker will be a Miami Dolphin for the indefinite future. And with the news of his signing going public, Baker took a few moments to record and share a message with the Dolphins’ faithful. What did he have to say? You can hear it for yourself.

Baker is, understandably, all smiles. After signing a 4-year rookie contract worth a total value of $3.809M after the Dolphins drafted him in the 3rd-round of the 2018 NFL draft, Baker will be seeing his income increase exponentially starting in 2022. The 2021 season will be the final year of Baker’s original deal, but with $28.4M in guaranteed money, Baker will certainly be a lock and safe for the team’s roster in 2022 an 2023 as well.

One of the team’s young, energetic leaders on defense, Baker will now play with a different title, too: defensive cornerstone.
