Dolphins confirm Skylar Thompson will start vs. Bills; Tagovailoa, Mostert are out

MIAMI GARDENS — Rookie Skylar Thompson will start at quarterback for the Dolphins against the Buffalo Bills in Sunday's wild-card game, coach Mike McDaniel confirmed Friday.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson (19) celebrates an 11-6 victory over the New York Jets at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Jan. 8, 2023.

Starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remains in the same early stage of concussion protocol, McDaniel added. Tagovailoa is listed as out, as is leading rusher Raheem Mostert, who has a broken finger.

Jeff Wilson will likely get the bulk of carries.

Offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg (hand) is the only other player listed as out or doubtful, which may be the best the Dolphins could have hoped for in a week when a dozen players either missed practice time or were limited.

Teddy Bridgewater, who has a dislocated pinky, is expected to back up Thompson. Bridgewater is listed as questionable along with tackle Terron Armstead, who has four injuries but practiced on a limited basis for the first time Friday.

"My goal is to be out there, lined up, at left tackle on Sunday," Armstead said.

Also questionable are linebacker Bradley Chubb (ankle, hand), fullback Alec Ingold (thumb), tackle Kendall Lamm (ankle) and receiver Cedrick Wilson (hip, groin).

For the Bills, receiver Isaiah McKenzie (hamstring) and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips (shoulder) are questionable.

Tyreek Hill named to All-Pro team

Receiver Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins' MVP, was named to the NFL All-Pro team. No other Dolphins were so honored.

The other receivers are Minnesota's Justin Jefferson and Las Vegas' Devante Adams. Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback.
