DL Adam Gotsis set to return to Jaguars on two-year deal

The Jaguars and defensive lineman Adam Gotsis have agreed to terms on a two-year deal, his agent David Canter of GSE Worldwide announced via Twitter on Saturday. The exact terms of the agreement were not immediately known.

Gotsis, 30, originally signed with the Jaguars during the 2020 season. He's started 19 games for the team, playing in 47. Gotsis has accounted for 83 total tackles, including 13 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and 19 quarterback hits. Gotsis plays special teams, accounting for 263 special teams snaps in 2022.

Now, Gotsis will return for a fourth season with the club after spending his first four seasons in the league with the Denver Broncos, originally drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Georgia Tech.

Gotsis, originally from Kew East, Victoria, Australia, began his football career playing Australian rules football before joining a local junior American football club during his teenage years. He ventured off to the states after representing the Australian national American football team at the IFAF World Championship to join Georgia Tech in 2012.

With Gotsis' return, the Jaguars get back a player that provided depth for the team. Jacksonville has already lost one of his running mates, defensive lineman Arden Key to the Tennessee Titans.

The club still has a couple of impending free-agent defensive linemen, including DL Dawuane Smoot and Corey Peters. Smoot is likely to return to the club but ruptured his Achilles tendon late during the 2022 campaign.

In recent days, Jacksonville has worked hard to retain its free agents, bringing back safety Andrew Wingard and cornerback Tre Herndon. Wingard agreed to a three-year deal with the team, while Herndon is reportedly set to sign a one-year agreement. The team also placed the franchise tag on TE Evan Engram, while they re-signed quarterback C.J. Beathard to a two-year deal.

The Jaguars have four remaining unrestricted free agents on the market, including Smoot, Peters, tight end Dan Arnold and wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. The team lost Key, offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor and TE Chris Manhertz to other teams during the early stages of free agency.
