District champion CB West baseball coach resigns after six seasons

Brian Weaver spent six seasons as the Central Bucks West baseball coach.

The 2023 campaign was the best in school history, with the Bucks winning the PIAA District One Class 6A championship as the 14th seed. They advanced to the state quarterfinals, where they lost to eventual state champ Father Judge 1-0 in nine innings, and finished with a 20-7 record.

After ending up 25th in the district rankings — the top 24 qualify for districts — this spring, Weaver has resigned to spend more time with wife Kristin and their three children from ages 5 to 12. He told the team last week.

"My kids have shared me with my boys for most of their existence," Weaver said. "Even when you're home, the coaching tab is always open in the background of your mental browser. They've been patient as we've tried to build something special at West. But now it's their turn. I can't wait to see what adventures they have in store."

The district title was a progression from a 3-16 season in 2018, which was the year before he took over, to just missing the playoffs in 2021 to winning a district game in '22 to the unforgettable 2023 experience.

"You don't put together that run in one year — you build it," Weaver said. "We had a phenomenal group of young men — not just good ballplayers, but character guys. To get to be a part of their journey was incredible. Walking into school each day and seeing that trophy in the display case is a daily reminder of one of the most special years of my life."

The 40-year-old Weaver is a social studies teacher at CB West. He was also an assistant baseball, football and boys tennis coach at West until becoming the head baseball coach in 2019.

He's the son of a baseball coach. Dad Dwight, who he played for at Octorara High School in the early 2000s, won a pair of district titles at Avon Grove in Chester County (1983 and '89).

"I'll miss matching up with the other coaches in the (Suburban One League)," Weaver said. "I think the staff and players we've assembled at West are some of the best individuals you could possibly ask for, so I'll miss spending the time with them, (as well as) the lifts, the offseason workouts, the practices, the bus rides. ... I'm sure it'll be tough next March when it's baseball time and I'm not in a dugout."
