Did Jac Caglianone play final game for Florida baseball? UF falls in SEC Tournament to Vandy

Florida baseball made a quick exit from the SEC Tournament, as the ninth-seeded Florida Gators lost 6-3 to eight-seed Vanderbilt on Tuesday night in Hoover, Ala.

The Florida Gators (28-27) will now await selection Monday and see if they did enough to reach the NCAA Tournament for a 16th time under Kevin O'Sullivan. Florida entered the tournament with an RPI of 22 and has played the number one strength of schedule in the country. The Gators won four of 10 SEC series during the regular season — including series wins against Texas A&M, LSU and Georgia.

"It's up to the committee, and there's nothing that I can say or do, and I'm not going to sit here and politic for our team," O'Sullivan said. "But at the same time, that one simple thing, going 9-9 in 18 league games against teams that are potentially going to host or be national seeds, I think that says something."

If not, it will mark the end of a spectacular college career for two-way star Jac Caglianone, who went 2 for 4 with a run scored against Vanderbilt to extend his on-base streak to 41 straight games. Caglianone also had an error at first base but made a nice running over-the-shoulder catch in foul territory in the first inning.

A projected top five pick in next June's Major League Baseball amateur draft, Caglianone is batting .415 with 29 home runs and 58 RBIs. On the mound, Caglianone went 5-1 with a 4.35 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched.

Caglianone has belted 69 career home runs at Florida, five shy of the school record of 74 set by Matt LaPorta.

Florida fell in an early 6-0 hole before scoring a run in the eighth on an RBI ground out from shortstop Colby Shelton. Center fielder Michael Robertson launched a two-run homer, his second of the season, with two outs in the ninth inning.

Pierce Coppola (0-4) took the loss for Florida, allowing four runs on four hits in 3.2 innings. Coppola walked one and struck out four.
