How did we grade Georgia football's offense and defense in win over UAB?

Georgia football won its 22nd straight home game Saturday night by dispatching UAB 49-21.

The Bulldogs are 4-0 heading into a road game next Saturday at Auburn.

Here’s how we graded the No. 1 ranked team in the nation:

Offense: B

Georgia didn’t have trouble putting up yards (581) and scored touchdowns on all six red zone trips. Carson Beck could have been sharper, but still was 22 of 32 for a career-high 337 yards and three touchdowns. He played with just two scholarship running backs.

Defense: C+

Red zone defense continues to haunt Georgia. UAB scored on three of four trips and the Blazers were 15-of-22 passing in the first half. UAB had a season-low 4.4 yards per play.

Special teams: C-

Georgia set UAB up with a short field after a Mekhi Mews fumbled on a punt return. Dillon Bell also fumbled on a kickoff return. UAB had a 29-yard kickoff return. The Bulldogs got called for a block in the back on a punt return.

Coaching: C+

Georgia came out inspired on the opening drive, but couldn’t put the Blazers away. The Bulldogs continue to have answers in the third quarter. A slew of injuries hasn’t made the coaching staff job any easier this season.

Overall: C

This was a buy game against a Group of Five opponent that wasn’t as easy as it should have been. Georgia was never in jeopardy of losing but the Bulldogs aren’t coming close to reaching their own very high standard.
