Phoenix Mercury guard and WNBA veteran Diana Taurasi has been suspended for one game after picking up her seventh technical foul this season, the league announced on Monday.

Taurasi was assessed her seventh technical foul midway through the second quarter on Saturday in the Mercury’s game against the Minnesota Lynx. According to the AZCentral, Taurasi picked up a foul and “then either tripped and fell to the floor or chose to do so on her own.” That drew her second technical of the night, and she was then ejected from the game.

Mercury coach Sandy Brondello also was assessed a technical foul for arguing the call on Taurasi.

“I only saw her fall down, so I can’t even say why,” Brondello said. “I have to go back and look at the film. It’s unfortunate because Diana was playing great and we may have won that game if we can keep her on the floor.”

The Mercury fell to the Lynx 80-75 on Saturday.

Taurasi will be suspended without pay for Phoenix’s game on Wednesday when the Mercury host the Chicago Sky. For every additional technical foul Taurasi picks up going forward this season, per WNBA rules, she will be automatically suspended for an additional game.

Taurasi, who is currently in her 14th season in the league, is averaging 20.3 points, 4.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game so far this season.
