Diamondbacks trade for infielder Eduardo Escobar from Twins
The Arizona Diamondbacks officially entered the trade market Friday, acquiring Eduardo Escobar, the versatile infielder, from the Minnesota Twins.

Escobar, 29, can play around the infield, but he’s spent most of his time this year at third base. He’s got solid numbers in 2018, with a .274/.338/.514 triple slash and 15 home runs. Escobar has also hit 37 doubles, the most in all of baseball.
In return, Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan tweeted that the Twins are getting a pitcher and two outfielders, all in the low minors.
Sources: The Twins are getting RHP Jhoan Duran, OF Ernie De La Trinidad and OF Gabriel Maciel from the Diamondbacks for Eduardo Escobar. All three are at Class A Kane County.

Escobar had been connected to the Philadelphia Phillies, but the Diamondbacks make a lot of sense as a landing spot. Third baseman Jake Lamb and shortstop Nick Ahmed haven’t exactly blown anyone away with their production. Lamb has been limited to just 56 games this season due to recurrent shoulder problems, and his numbers have taken a bit of a nosedive (.222/.307/.348 in 238 plate appearances). Ahmed is finally healthy after an injury-riddled 2017, but he’s only hit .234/.287/.437 this year.
The Diamondbacks are known for hitting the cream cheese out of the ball, but Lamb and Ahmed aren’t getting the job done. They desperately need more production out of their infielders, and that’s exactly what they hope Escobar will give them.
