Devils 2, Lightning 1

NEWARK, N.J. -- Jaromir Jagr and Adam Henrique scored second-period goals as the New Jersey Devils edged the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Tuesday at Prudential Center.

For the first time this season, the Devils are winners of consecutive games.

Goaltender Martin Brodeur made 16 saves to earn the victory while Lightning netminder Ben Bishop stopped 20 of 22 shots but was saddled with his second loss of the season.

Steven Stamkos scored for the Lightning, who had their three-game win streak snapped.

After a scoreless first period, the Lightning were awarded the first power play of the game after defenseman Anton Volchenkov was whistled for interference. But it was the short-handed Devils who scored during the sequence.

Lightning defenseman Matthew Carle fumbled the puck at the blue, sending Henrique and Patrik Elias on a 2-on-1 break. The duo played give-and-go, leading to Henrique's fourth goal of the season at 1:36.

Jagr's third goal of the season at 10:54 put the Devils ahead 2-0 and was also the result of a turnover at the attacking blue line. Lightning forward Martin St. Louis lost the puck to Jagr, who took off on a breakaway and beat Bishop to the stick side.

The Lightning responded on their second power-play chance of the game, as some great effort in front of the net by Stamkos cut the lead to 2-1 at 15:23. Brodeur was able to make the initial save on a deflection from in tight, but Stamkos was able to poke the rebound through Brodeur's legs for his ninth goal of the season.

Lightning center Valtteri Filppula had a chance to tie the score with about six minutes left in the third period, but Brodeur moved right to left to deny the backhand opportunity near the crease.
