Devilettes drop 11 3s on Gallatin in 33-point win

Dec. 2—Lebanon's girls scored the first 14 points of the game Tuesday night and were never threatened as the Devilettes rode their outside shooting to win their fourth straight 66-33 at Campbell Brandon Gym/Hester Gibbs Court.

Gallatin closed the first quarter with a 7-0 run to cut the margin in half. But Lebanon pulled away down the stretch of the first half to lead 36-11 at intermission. It was 48-26 going into the fourth as the Devilettes improved to 4-3.

"This may be the youngest team I've ever coached because even our older players are kind of young," said Lebanon coach Cory Barrett, who started one of his two seniors and one of his seven freshmen. "T.K. Hastings, by age, should probably be a sophomore instead of a junior. We're starting to gain some experience. What you saw tonight, you saw our early schedule start to pay off. We're getting better. We wanted to expose all of the things we needed to work on. And we put an emphasis on a couple of things a day and try to really improve those. We feel like over the next four months, we'll fix a couple of things a day, then in February and March we'll be having a chance to compete."

Freshman E.B. McDonald drained four of the Devilettes 11 3-pointers in leading Lebanon with 16 points while Tiara Spencer sank five triples, including three in the first quarter, for her 15. Hastings hit two treys on her way to 14. Senior Sani Scott scored all of her six points in the fourth quarter while Keeli Davis and Maggie Kelley each finished with four; Shaunna Rowe, Macey Baker and Tramaria Neal two apiece and Kiah Seay a free throw.

"We've been working on our shooting a lot," Barrett said. "We hadn't shot the ball extremely well early on. But our kids are gaining more confidence. We're taking more game-speed shots in practice and then after practice and before practice. I see things that are improving and then I see things we need to continue to improve on. But I'm pleased with our effort and our standards are going to be high. We're not going to settle for anything but your very best."

Asia Sawyers led the Lady Wave with 17 points as Gallatin slipped to 2-3.

"Our ceiling's really high on the defensive end," Barrett said. "We've got a lot of quickness. We're physical. We're getting better at blocking out. We're starting to get the ball with two hands. If we can limit people's options on offense then it leads to transition points for us. Our playbook's really small right now, so we're working on a few things right now to get good at those things. Hopefully, in the next couple of months, we'll have somewhat of a full playbook and have plenty of options."

Lebanon hosted Mt. Juliet last night and will entertain Blackman at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
