IT'S A TWOFER: Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Angels postponed due to weather; doubleheader Thursday

Game notes: The Tigers and Angels will play a doubleheader on Thursday after Wednesday's game was postponed due to a line of severe storms that moved through the state, which may throw some lineups and rotations into flux. And unfortunately for the Tigers, it now means they must feel the double wrath of Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani was not scheduled to pitch in the series against the Tigers, but after a rain delay on Wednesday, the team has decided to move his start up a day. He will also reportedly hit in both games. See, this is why we've been telling you how valuable he is.

Tigers All-Star Michael Lorenzen is scheduled to pitch the first game on Thursday, meaning we'll get an All-Star showdown. Lorenzen has been one of the hottest pitchers in baseball and is currently riding a 21⅔ inning-scoreless streak, which he surely would like to keep going against the Angels. He spent the 2022 season out in Anaheim and now has an opportunity for some revenge.

But things won't be easy for Lorenzen, as he will go up against the ultimate weapon in Ohtani and have to face him as a hitter and a pitcher. Ohtani the slugger is leading the MLB in home runs, triples, and slugging percentage, among other categories, and is also one of the best pitchers in baseball.

The Tigers won't have to battle with star outfielder Mike Trout, who remains out after surgery on his broken left wrist. They will however be facing lefty Patrick Sandoval in Game 2, who has not been as dominant this year as he was last season. His ERA of 4.16 is far higher than the career-best 2.91 he posted last season in 27 starts. Sandoval has looked good in his past two outings, allowing two hits and one run in games against the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres.

Before the rain delay, young right-hander Matt Manning was scheduled to throw. At first the Tigers declined to name a starter, but as of Thursday morning, they've said Manning is on the schedule. Manning has looked extremely sharp since returning from a foot injury earlier this season. The righty was only able to pitch two innings in his last outing against the San Diego Padres when another storm rolled in, delaying the game. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch decided it was best to be careful, and inserted long reliever Mason Englert, who gave up nine runs and 10 hits. He was put on the IL shortly after.
