Detroit Lions sign C Evan Boehm, activate OG Evan Heim off reserve-COVID list

The Detroit Lions made two moves to bolster their depleted offensive line Monday, signing free agent center Evan Boehm and activating guard Evan Heim from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

"If your name's Evan there's a good chance you can play offensive line for us," Lions coach Dan Campbell joked before the start of practice Monday.

Boehm, who visited the Lions and New York Giants last week, was an occasional starter in his first four NFL seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins. He also had brief stints with the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills.

The Lions spent the first four days of training camp working with 12 linemen while Heim was on reserve/COVID and backup center Evan Brown was on the nonfootball injury list.

Boehm takes the vacant 90th spot on the Lions' roster.

The Lions will hold their first padded practice of camp Tuesday. By NFL rules, teams cannot practice in pads until two days after their first day off, which for the Lions was Sunday.
