Detroit Lions RB Mohamed Ibrahim carted off after serious hip injury vs. Baltimore Ravens

Detroit Lions reserve running back Mohamed Ibrahim was carted off the field after suffering a hip injury on a kickoff return midway through the third quarter against the Baltimore Ravens.

Ibrahim fielded the kickoff and stayed down after he took a helmet to his upper leg. He was placed on a board and carted off the field immediately. Shortly thereafter, the team ruled Ibrahim out for the rest of the game.

It was another negative moment in a game filled with them for the Lions, who trailed 35-0 at the time of the injury.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said at his postgame press conference Ibrahim was taken to the hospital, where he was undergoing surgery and would spend the night in the Baltimore area.

According to the Twitter account ProFootballDoc, run by former NFL doctor David J. Chao, Ibrahim's injury looked like a hip dislocation, based on video evidence.

Ibrahim was elevated from the practice squad to the roster Saturday to help fill in for the injured David Montgomery. He signed with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota this offseason. He was initially cut but was brought back to the practice squad on Tuesday.

During his career at Minnesota, Ibrahim missed an entire season with a torn Achilles tendon injury.
