Derrick Rose signing multiyear contract with Grizzlies after three seasons with Knicks
Derrick Rose intends to sign a multiyear agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies, SNY's Ian Begley first reported Friday evening as NBA free agency tipped off.
The 34-year-old point guard, the 2008 draft's No. 1 overall pick and 2011 MVP, spent the past three seasons with the Knicks.
New York acquired Rose, who originally spent the 2016-17 campaign with the Knicks, in a February 2021 trade that sent Dennis Smith Jr. and a second-round pick to the Detroit Pistons.
Rose was a key contributor off the bench as the Knicks finished the 2020-21 season fourth in the Eastern Conference, averaging 14.9 points and 4.2 assists over 26.8 minutes through 35 regular-season games (three starts).
The Knicks extended Rose's contract for three years and $43 million in August 2021.
His role decreased throughout the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, however, as he averaged 8.7 points in 18.4 minutes over 53 regular-season games (four starts).
New York declined Rose's team option for the 2023-24 season last Saturday, which made him an unrestricted free agent.
