Deonte Banks continues to be a popular selection for the Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have only three cornerbacks on the roster that aren’t on futures contracts. Those players are Byron Murphy Jr., Andrew Booth Jr. and Akayleb Evans.

Needless to say, there is a need at the position. In the latest mock draft from Nate Tice and Diante Lee of The Athletic, they agreed and sent Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks to the Vikings at the 23rd overall pick.

Even after the signing of Byron Murphy this offseason, the Vikings have a desperate need for cornerbacks. Luckily, there is a deep crop of them at the top of the draft. Banks is an athletic player with plus ball skills whose testing numbers aligned with what he showed on film. Banks also excels in man coverage with his ability to mirror wide receivers, which would be a great fit for new defensive coordinator Brian Flores’ preferred scheme.-Tice

Banks is one of my favorite players in this class and currently ranks as my number five cornerback ahead of players like Emmanuel Forbes and Kelee Ringo. He is incredibly feisty and aggressive with the ability to mirror wide receivers, including great ones like Marvin Harrison Jr.

Adding Banks isn’t a necessity for the Vikings, but the defense would be much better off having him thank not.
