Denzel Mims on relationship with coaches: ‘It is what it is. It’s my coaches.’

Denzel Mims put out a strong performance in the Jets’ final preseason game against the New York Giants. He caught seven passes for 102 yards and a touchdown in his first game since publicly requesting a trade from the franchise on Thursday.

He spoke to the media after the game and had some interesting words to say regarding his trade request and his relationship with the coaches.

“That was something between me and my agent,” Mims said. “My agent (Ron Slavin) can tell you more about that. It was something that we made.”

Mims added that he “loves the Jets” and “I don’t have a problem with the Jets.” But when asked about his relationship with the coaches, he said “It is what it is. It’s my coaches. I have nothing but respect for them.”

He said he respects head coach Robert Saleh, but paused for a moment before talking about him. Saleh called him “one of our six best receivers” after Sunday’s game.

The Jets have until Tuesday to cut their roster down to 53 players. By then, we’ll have a better idea of where things stand between them and Mims.
