Denver Broncos schedule: odds, streaming, and how to watch Week 6 game vs. Chiefs

The Denver Broncos followed their first win of the season over the Chicago Bears with a disappointing 31-21 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday. Broncos head coach Sean Payton's summer comments about former Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett (now the Jets' offensive coordinator) gave the matchup some extra hype leading up to kickoff.

New York outscored Denver 23-8 in the second half powered by touchdowns from running back Breece Hall and cornerback Bryce Hall. The loss drops Denver to 1-4 and winless at home. Payton didn't elaborate on his summer comments about Hackett after the loss.

"Listen, they played better than us," Payton said post-game. "I credit Robert and that staff, they won the game, that's how I look at it."

Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II's late interception gave the Broncos a chance at victory but a Russell Wilson fumble gave Bryce Hall the chance to seal the game with just under two minutes to go.

“Big-time players gotta make big-time plays,” Surtain said, adding that the team “had a tremendous amount of momentum going into that drive.”

Now, the Broncos have a short turnaround before a Thursday Night Football matchup against the AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs (4-1). The last time the Broncos beat the Chiefs was Sept. 17, 2015, when Peyton Manning threw two touchdowns to Emmanuel Sanders. The Chiefs have won the last 15 matchups between the AFC West rivals.

“I mean, it would be huge,” Broncos safety Justin Simmons said of a Denver win this week. Simmons, who the Broncos drafted in 2016, has yet to win a game against the Chiefs in his eight-year career.

“We gotta create a new history,” Wilson said Tuesday.
