Dennis Allen gets revenge on former team as Saints shut out Raiders 24-0
It’s been eight years since the Raiders were shut out in a game. That was a 52-0 loss to the Rams in Derek Carr’s rookie season of 2014. That was until today.
The Raiders went into New Orleans to face the Saints led by new head coach Dennis Allen.
That 2014 season saw Dennis Allen fired as Raiders head coach after going 0-4 in the first month of that season. Tony Sparano took over as the interim head coach and six weeks later, the Raiders still hadn’t won a game, dropping to 0-10 on the season.
It was week 12 before the Raiders would get their first win, beating the Chiefs 24-20. The week after came the debacle in St Louis. And after the season, Sparano was not brought back as head coach and Allen returned to coach the defense as the defensive coordinator in New Orleans.
That’s the position he held for seven season until finally getting promoted to his second NFL head coaching job this season; his first since his time with the Raiders.
Allen’s defense completely smothered a Raiders offense that put up 38 points just last week and had averaged 33 points the past three weeks.
They sacked Derek Carr three times while picking off Carr once.
Meanwhile the Saints offense, led by the combo of Andy Dalton and Taysom Hill put up 17 points in the first half and was up 24-0 after the first drive of the third quarter, essentially putting the game away early.
The Raiders pulled the plug on Derek Carr late in the fourth quarter with no hope of coming back.
Alvin Kamara alone outgained the entire Raiders offensive totals at the time Derek Carr was pulled. The veteran back put up 158 total yards and three touchdowns while the Raiders offense had a net 119 yards with five punts, one turnover and another on downs.
Just a complete collapse by the Raiders and domination by the Saints.
