Deng Deng of Four Winds-Minnewaukan receives Mr. Basketball honors

Mar. 22—GRAND FORKS — Deng Deng of Four Winds-Minnewaukan has won the North Dakota Mr. Basketball award.

The award was announced Friday afternoon by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Deng, a 6-foot-4 forward who's committed to play wide receiver at UND in the fall, averaged 27.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game.

Deng is the first Mr. Basketball winner from Four Winds-Minnewaukan since Jason Feather in 2016.

Deng finished with 100 points in the voting with 19 of the 24 first-place votes.

Isiah St. Romain of Williston and Bohden Duffield of Bowman County finished with 27 points in the voting to finish behind Deng.

Other finalists included Wylee Delorme of Devils Lake, Carter Zeller of Fargo North, Dane Hagler of North Star, Max Musland of LaMoure-Litchville-Marion and James Hamilton of Fargo South.

Four Winds-Minnewaukan finished 17-4 this past season, although two of the losses came at the beginning of the season as Deng recovered from an injury.

With Deng in the lineup, Four Winds lost to Devils Lake and Kindred — the two teams that played for the Division A state championship.

The Indians were knocked out of the region tournament by two of the state's best teams in Devils Lake and Grafton.

Deng was a three-time all-state choice, landing on all-state first teams the past two seasons.
