Defending champion Taylor Fritz will return to defend Delray Beach Open crown

Taylor Fritz will be back in Delray in February.

Fritz, the Delray Beach Open reigning champion, will begin his title defense on Valentine's night, Feb. 14, a spokesperson for the tournament announced Thursday.

Fritz, the highest-ranked American at No. 10, took out Serbia's Miomir Kecmanović 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 to win the 2023 Final.

The 32nd Delray Beach Open will take place Feb. 9-18 at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center.

Also entered is Fritz's American compatriot Tommy Paul, who will play his first match on Feb. 15. Fritz, who is a Miami resident, and Paul, who lives in Delray Beach, are the top two Americans on the ATP Tour, ranked No. 10 and 13, respectively.

Fritz, 25, will try to become the first player to win the title in back-to-back years since Jason Stoltenberg in 1996-97. When he was at No. 7, Fritz was the first current top-10 player to hoist the Delray Beach Open trophy last February.

This year has been a breakout season for Paul, 26, who reached his first Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open with wins over two seeds, including fellow American and 2023 U.S. Open semifinalist Ben Shelton. Paul has played the Delray for five straight years.
