DeAgo Brumfield, Memphis football starting cornerback in 2023, enters transfer portal

Memphis football is losing a starter in the transfer portal.

Cornerback DeAgo Brumfield has entered the portal with one season of eligibility remaining, he announced on Tuesday morning. Brumfield led the Tigers with 10 pass breakups and also made 42 tackles in 2023.

A transfer from NAIA-level Campbellsville (Ky.) University, Brumfield won a starting role in the offseason and started 12 of 13 games. His breakout game came against Arkansas State, when he had five pass breakups.

Brumfield has played two years at Campbellsville and one at Memphis.

He was lightly recruited out of high school and chose to go to Campbellsville, where he earned All-Mid-South Conference second-team honors as a sophomore. He then transferred to Memphis and quickly won a starting job.

Brumfield is the first starter from last season's team to enter the portal during the spring window.

The spring window for the transfer portal opened Tuesday and will run until April 30.
