Dave Van Horn receives commitment from JUCO infielder a year early

The Arkansas baseball team picked a commitment from junior-college infielder Carson Schrack on Wednesday.

Schrack had initially said he was going to stay at Coffeyville Community College for another season after undergoing Tommy John surgery this fall. Instead, he said he will join the Diamond Hogs in the Class of 2024.

The surgery means Schrack will spent the summer and fall rehabbing in hopes of playing during the 2025 season.

He hit .404 with 22 doubles and 55 RBI last year and was named All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference first-teamer, bolstering an Arkansas class that was surprisingly low-ranked nationally. The class is rated 18th by Perfect Game before Schrack’s commitment although the freshman class was ranked No. 1 in the nation by D1Baseball.

Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn has taken the Razorbacks to the NCAA Tournament every year but one since becoming head coach in 2003 and the Diamond Hogs most recently reached the College World Series in 2019.

The Diamond Hogs open the 2024 season February 16 at Baum-Walker Stadium against James Madison.
