Notes and quotes

Cougars coach Aaron Roan: "I thought that was really important for us to try to jump out and get a good lead early. (LHS) is an extremely scrappy group and, man, they fight and they battle. We knew that that was gonna be a dogfight we didn't want to get in if we could keep from it. I was really pleased with the start that we had."

Lubbock High coach Juan Rodriguez: "Anytime you're in a situation where you're falling behind, you're always gonna have trouble. But our kids fought hard. I think we stayed in the game to the best of our ability. They still came out and tried to do what they could and play their best. That's still the type of the kid that we have. We've got great character."

Cooper (4-5 overall) won its third game in a row to improve to 3-1 in District 2-5A Division II play.

Roan: "Things didn't go our way in non-district, and that's life and that's football. Football's a funny game. But I've been real proud of the way that our kids have continued to come to work every day and understanding that the best football that they have is still out there."
