D’Angelo Russell has waived his no-trade clause

A big part of the Los Angeles Lakers’ successful offseason is the agreement they came to with D’Angelo Russell on a new contract.

The 27-year-old guard, who was acquired in the big Russell Westbrook trade in February, signed a two-year deal that is reportedly worth $37 million to stay in the Purple and Gold.

Keeping him is a big deal, as he averaged 17.4 points and 6.1 assists a game on 48.4 percent overall shooting and 41.4 percent from 3-point range in 17 regular season contests with Los Angeles after the trade. Even though he struggled at times in the playoffs, he is seen as a major part of the team’s offensive attack and ability to keep LeBron James’ workload manageable.

At first, it appeared Russell’s new deal included a no-trade clause. But he has reportedly waived that clause.

This would allow the Lakers to trade him this coming season, if they wish to do so at some point. Right now, such a move may seem unlikely, but a lot can happen between July and February.
