Creed Humphrey says Chiefs’ OL wants to be known for its physicality

The Kansas City Chiefs offensive line took a significant step forward last season with the addition of several new players. An immediate upgrade came in the center of the offensive line with second-round draft pick Creed Humphrey.

Humphrey adjusted well to the NFL in his rookie season, playing with the poise and confidence of a multi-year veteran. He was an anchor of a revamped offensive line charged with the primary goal of protecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes from the pressure he felt the year prior.

The Oklahoma standout enters his second training camp with confidence, knowing what he and his teammates are capable of. Humphrey revealed to reporters on Monday that the offensive line unit has some big goals as a whole during the 2022 NFL season.

“Yeah, I think everybody on the line this year, we want to be known as one of the most physically dominating lines in the league,” said Humphrey. “We have the pieces, we have the guys that can do it, so really that’s our whole outlook is just being physical. The physicality will show through and make teams know when they’re playing us that they’re going to be playing a physical offensive line that finishes through the whistle, finishes plays and things like that and we’re excited to get to work on it.”

The position group’s physicality made a noticeable difference in the running game and the passing game last season. Humphrey and the rest of his teammates look to grow and improve in their second year of playing together. If they can provide an even greater level of that type of rugged physicality on a weekly basis, it will benefit an offense that looks to feature many new weapons after offseason departures.
