Cowboys have 7th-best SB odds, Prescott slightly better for MVP

If you were one of the millions of people who put their hard-earned money on the line for the Big Game, hopefully the odds were forever in your favor. And if you hunger (get it?) for more action, rest assured, there’s always something for you, even as the NFL enters into their pseudo-hibernation zone.

The 2023 season concluded with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs winning their second straight Super Bowl, taking down the San Francisco 49ers 25-22, in overtime. Now, immediately for most, the attention turns to the 2024 season and who will lift the Lombardi. There’s a lot of work to be done between now and then, but if interested, one can place a wager on who will win it all, and which player will do their part to get their team to the promise land.

The Dallas Cowboys remain tied with the 49ers for the most Super Bowl wins for an NFC franchise with five; much to the chagrin of San Francisco fans who have seen their team go to three Super Bowls in the last 10 years with nothing to show for it. The 49ers are the odds-on favorite to win it all next year, but the Super Bowl hangover is a real thing.

No NFC team has lost a Super Bowl and returned to the Big Game the following year since the Minnesota Vikings of 1974 and 1975. The two AFC teams to do it were Tom Brady’s Patriots in 2018 and 2019, and Jim Kelly’s Buffalo Bills, who lost four straight Super Bowls in the early 1990s.

SB Odds

The Cowboys rank seventh in Super Bowl odds for 2024, according to Bet MGM. With the game scheduled for February 9, 2025, a lot can change between now and then, but currently Dallas and Philadelphia are tied for third in the NFC, behind the 49ers and the Detroit Lions.

The team that eliminated Dallas, the Green Bay Packers, are fifth in the NFC.

MVP Odds

Patrick Mahomes, fresh off his third Super Bowl MVP, is the odds-on favorite to win the MVP award next season, and it’s pretty dumb to bet against him in any capacity at this point. Dak Prescott finished second in this year’s voting and is entering an offseason where he’ll likely become the highest-paid player in the league.

He checks in tied for the sixth-best favorite to win the honor.
