County, conference, City titles: Vote for IHSAA track and field athletes of week

Get your votes in for the high school track and field athletes of the week by noon Friday. These are the nominees for the week of May 8-13:

Princess Campbell, Westfield: The senior won the 100 (11.99) at the Hamilton County meet, the third-best time in the state.

Kya Crooke, Heritage Christian: The junior won the 100 at the City Meet (12.23) and also took the high jump (5-10) and long jump (18-3 ¾). Her high jump is the best in the state this spring.

Ella Ewing, Hamilton Heights: The junior won the 100 hurdles (14.88) and the long jump (18-5 ¾) and took second in the 300 hurdles (46.00) at the Hamilton County meet. Her long jump is the third-best number in the state this spring.

JD Haines, Bishop Chatard: The sophomore helped Chatard to the title at the City meet by winning the 800 meters (1:59.50) and a second-place finish in the 1,600 (4:27.84), just behind teammate Davis Falcon.

Jack Hearld, Danville: Danville won the Sagamore Conference meet and the sophomore Hearld did his part by winning the 3,200 (9:50.56) and competing on the 4x800 winning relay team with the second-fastest time in school history (8:17.01).

Luke Himes, Heritage Christian: The junior cruised to titles in the shot put (62-9) and discus (173-11) at the City meet. Himes is the state leader in the shot put and is eighth in the discus.

Nate Killeen, North Central: North Central won the Marion County meet as the senior Killen won the 1,600 meters (4:13.49) and the 800 (1:55.64).

Hadley Lucas, Bloomington North: The junior posted the state’s best number for the spring with a 50-11 in the shot put at the Bloomington North Twilight meet.

Kole Mathison, Carmel: The senior standout ran a 1:50.80 to win the 800 at the Hamilton County meet and post the best time in the state this season.

Emily Norris, Carmel: The sophomore shined at the Hamilton County meet with a victory in the 200 meters (24.90) and a third-place finish in the 100 (12.16). Norris’ time in the 200 is the second-best in the state this season.

Pa’Shence Purnell, Herron: The junior shined at the City meet with victories in the 100 hurdles (14.94) and 300 hurdles (46.00) and took second in the 200 (26.38).

Laila Smith, Warren Central: The junior was a star at the Marion County meet won by Warren Central with wins in the long jump (18-4) and 300 hurdles (43.49) and a second-place finish in the 100 hurdles (14.84) to teammate Anya Rollins. Smith’s time in the 300 hurdles broke the Marion County record held by her cousin, Ashley Spencer, the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist in the 400 hurdles. Smith’s time is the fastest in the state this spring.

Nicki Southerland, Delta: The junior posted the best time in the state in 800 (2:10.30) at the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet. Southerland also won the 1,600 (4:47.54) with the second-fastest time this season and won the 3,200 (11:51.16).

Cameron Todd, Brebeuf Jesuit: The junior won the Marion County meet in the 3,200 (9:19.25) and took second in the 1,600 (4:14.25).

LJ Ward, Lutheran: The sophomore went 6-7 to win the high jump at the Marion County track meet. Ward is also a standout on Lutheran’s Class A state championship-winning basketball team.
