Could Jaylen Brown be in the Brooklyn Nets’ future?
The Brooklyn Nets have some reasons for optimism this offseason as they have two first-round picks, the ability to match any offer to restricted free-agent wing Cam Johnson, and the fact that Ben Simmons should be ready to go for training camp. Among those matters, there are mock trades and proposed moves that can allow the Nets fanbase to dream a little.
There is a recent article written by Rick Laughland of Netsinsider.com and in that, he put forth the idea that Brooklyn could be a dark horse team to acquire Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown. Brown, 26, just finished his seventh season in the NBA and was named second-team All-NBA after averaging 26.6 points while shooting 49.1% from the field and 33.5% from three-point land.
Part of the reason that Brown’s name is coming up as a candidate to go to the Nets is because of the rumors that came out of Brooklyn trading Kevin Durant to Boston for a package including Brown when Durant was a member of the Nets. Even though Durant is now with the Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn is still looking for ways to improve this offseason by possibly acquiring a player of Brown’s caliber.
Brown has one more year left on his contract of $30.7 million, but because of his making second-team All-NBA, he is eligible for a five-year supermax extension. Whether or not Brown signs that extension, he could still be on Brooklyn’s radar.
