Could Desmond Bane return early from an ankle injury? Taylor Jenkins offers insight

The Memphis Grizzlies could use good news on the injury front, and Desmond Bane shedding a boot less than two weeks after suffering a Grade 3 ankle sprain may be that.

Bane was at practice on Wednesday doing individual work. After recent reports of Bane possibly beating the six-week re-evaluation timeline, Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins updated the guard's status before Thursday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"He's kind of doing small movement shooting right now," Jenkins said. "He's keeping everything contained, but he's been working his tail off in medical spaces. He's hungry to get back and beat the timelines that are out there."

Jenkins added that Bane remains on target to be re-evaluated at the six-week timeline. He's mostly doing controlled one-on-one work.

Bane suffered the injury on Jan. 12 in a home loss against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Six weeks from Bane's injury update is Feb. 25. The Grizzlies won't play a game from Feb. 16-22 due to the NBA All-Star break, and they will have only played one game post-break by Feb. 25.
