Cor’Dale Flott feels ‘ready’ for opportunity as Giants’ second outside cornerback

This season could be a big one for Giants defensive back Cor’Dale Flott.

With Adoree' Jackson departing and no veteran replacement added in free agency, Flott is expected to slot in as Big Blue's second outside cornerback opposite second-year talent Deonte Banks.

While Flott has battled injuries and predominately played in the slot to this point in his pro career, the 22-year-old feels ready for the opportunity to shift to the outside.

"I’m really excited for it," he said. "I’ve taken advantage of every opportunity from Year 1 to Year 3 now, and the same urgency still applies. I’m just trying to continue elevating my game and learning from the veterans around me and keep getting better. Whatever helps the team, that's my approach."

Flott's taken reps in that spot during the early days of team optional OTA workouts and Giants coaches have liked what they've seen from the youngster.

“I really expect Flott to have a productive and good year for us there,” DB coach Jerome Henderson said. “He’s been tremendous this offseason studying and working. I expect him to be a guy who you look at and he takes a really big jump for us and he’s doing everything he can to take that jump.”

Flott, who recorded his first career interception last season, certainly appreciates the vote of confidence from his coaches and he seems ready to take on anything first-year DC Shane Bowen throws his way.

“I’m excited for the opportunity,” he said. “That gives me confidence that they have confidence in me. I’m just taking things day-by-day and continuing to try to get better and focused on competing with the offensive guys.”
