Constantine, Three Rivers wrestlers win regional titles

HOPKINS — Both Constantine and Three Rivers won regional wrestling championships on Wednesday evening.

The Falcons traveled north to Hopkins and won a pair of matches. Three Rivers headed east to Jackson Northwest and won each of its two matches as well.

With the victories, both the Falcons and Wildcats have punched their tickets to compete inside Wings Events Center in Kalamazoo next week. Constantine is returning to Wings Event Center after a strong showing last season.

Three Rivers at Jackson Northwest

Three Rivers won each of its matches at the Team Regional 113 hosted by Jackson Northwest on Wednesday. The Wildcats picked up victories over Stevensville-Lakeshore 45-27 and the host Mounties in the finals, 56-13.

White Pigeon ends wrestling season in regional finals

The Wildcats dropped the first bout in the regional finals as Jak Monroe was edged 5-2 by Kayden Beach at 120 pounds. This put the Mounties up 3-0 on the scoreboard, but it did not go their way the rest of the match.

Three Rivers would win the next 10 bouts.

Ethan Moreland won by pin at 126, Ayden Keller (132) won by major decision, Carter Hensley (138) won by pinfall, Landon Moreland (144) won by pinfall, Evan Harper (150) won by pin, Braylon Faile (157) won by decision, Louis Smith (165) picked up a win by pinfall, Jeremiah Detwiler (175) won by decision, Jaxon Smith (190) won by pinfall and then Sammy Reynolds (215) won by pin as well.

These wins gave Three Rivers a 52-3 edge in the match.

Also winning was Brody Morrill at 106, he pinned Franklin Banister at 3:54.

Constantine wins regional championship

The Constantine Falcons are headed back to Wings Event Center and the wrestling team state finals. On Wednesday, the Falcons beat up on Hopkins 62-12 and Dowagiac 54-30.

Constantine's win over Dowagiac came in the regional finals.

Preston Like (126) and Bear Geibe (132) started the match off with wins by pinfall for Constantine.

Cody Laughman (150), Brody Jones (157) and Carter Godfrey (165) then won consecutive matches by pinfall. Dathan Smith was awarded a win by void (175) before Gregg Reed (190) and Greg Crawford (215) both won by pinfall as well. Jace Vavul would also secure a win by void for Constantine at 120 pounds.

In the team's win over Hopkins, Constantine got victories from Like by fall, Geibe by major decision, Michael Featherstone by fall, Bucky Cramer by fall, Jones by technical fall, Godfrey by pin, Smith by pin, Reed by pin, Crawford by pin, Bennett VandenBerg (285) by void and Ashtin Forrester (106) by void.
