All-Conference: Six Watertown, four Aberdeen Central athletes honored

Six Watertown athletes and four from Aberdeen Central have been named to 2022-23 All-Eastern South Dakota Conference teams for wrestling, girls basketball and boys basketball.

Arrow honorees include seniors Weston Everson and Braden Le, junior Sloan Johannsen, sophomore Micah Hach and eighth-grader Gage Lohr for wrestling and senior Jaida Young for girls basketball.

Golden Eagles honored are junior Rayden Zens and sophomore Mason Schrempp for wrestling, freshman Taryn Hermansen for girls basketball and senior Spencer Barr for boys basketball.

Also included below are the All-Eastern Coteau Conference boys and girls basketball teams and All-Big Dakota Conference girls basketball team.

All-ESD Wrestling

Other selections are Alex Mentzer, Brendon Oehme, Jordon Oehme, Trason Oehme, Trevon Oehme, Navarro Schunke and Lucas Slack of Brandon Valley; Tyson Brandt and Nolan Miles of Brookings; Jack Detert, Dylan O'Connor and Logan O'Connor of Harrisburg; Moses Gross of Huron; Jagger Tyler of Mitchell; and Elijah Boutchee, Chance Carda, Deegan Houska, Trey Lewis, Alex Oedekoven, Joshua Rydberg and Tristan Spencer of Pierre. Trason Oehme, Schunke, Logan O'Connor and Moses Gross are each four-time honors and Zens, Mentzer, Jordon Oehme, Slack, Tyler, Houska and Johannsen three-time selections.

All-ESD Girls Basketball

Other all-conference selections are seniors Hilary Behrens of Brandon Valley, Isabelle Ellwein of Huron and Remington Price of Pierre; juniors Abigail Flanagan and Jaylee Hofer of Harrisburg, Sawyer Stoebner of Mitchell and Reese Terwilliger of Pierre; and sophomore Logan Smidt of Brookings. Junior Claire Tereshinski of Yankton and freshman Alyvia Padgett of Brandon Valley received honorable mention.

Behrens is a three-time honoree and Young, Price and Stoebner each repeated from last year.

All-ESD Boys Basketball

Other all-conference picks are seniors Ethan Determan of Harrisburg, Reilyn Zavesky of Huron, Steele Morgan and Dylan Soulek of Mitchell, Jackson Edman and Lincoln Kienholz of Pierre and Rugby Ryken of Yankton; and juniors Lukas Morgan of Brandon Valley and Jacoby Mehrman of Harrisburg. Senior Drew Ryken of Yankton received honorable mention.

Kienholz is a three-time selection. Determan, Mehrman, Morgan, Edman and Rugby Ryken also repeated from last year.

All-ECC Girls Basketball

First-team selections are seniors Trinity Watson of Florence-Henry and Nora Braun of Tri-State, juniors Eva Benike of Waubay-Summit and Caylin Kelly of Florence-Henry and sophomore Shali Laurence of Tri-State. Watson is a four-time selection to the first team. Kelly earned All-ECC honors for the fourth time (three first team and one second). Benike also repeated as a first-team honoree from last year.

Named to the second team are juniors Olivia Holmen and Halle Bauer of Great Plains Lutheran and Taylor Watson of Florence-Henry, sophomore Faith Larson of Waubay-Summit and eighth-grader Addison Heinje of Wilmot. Watson is a three-time second-team selection and Bauer repeated on the second team.

Kelly also repeated as the conference's most valuable player. Florence-Henry's Mitch Reed received Coach of the Year honors.

Final ECC Standings: 1. Florence-Henry, 5-0; 2. Waubay-Summit, 5-1; 3. Tri-State, 4-2; 4. Great Plains Lutheran, 2-3; 5. Wilmot, 2-4; 6. Britton-Hecla, 1-3; 7. Waverly-South Shore, 0-6.

All-ECC Boys Basketball

Seniors Jonathan Johnston and Damon Opdahl of Waubay-Summit, Mehki Keller of Florence-Henry and Landon Maag of Waverly-South Shore and junior Jackson Wohlleber of Waubay-Summit made the first team. Opdahl is a three-time first-team honoree and Johnston also a three-time selection (two first, one second). Keller repeated as a first-team honoree from last year.

The second team includes seniors BoDell Davidson of Britton-Hecla, Troy Kneeland of Waverly-South Shore and Peyton Roe of Florence-Henry; and juniors Kaleb Foltz of Tri-State and Alex Heil of Great Plains Lutheran.

Opdahl and Waubay-Summit head coach Mark Amdahl repeated as the conference's most valuable player and Coach of the Year, respectively.

Final ECC Standings: 1. Waubay-Summit, 6-0; 2. Waverly-South Shore, 5-1; 3. Florence-Henry, 4-2; 4. Great Plains Lutheran, 2-3; 5. Tri-State, 2-4; 6. Britton-Hecla, 1-4; 7. Wilmot, 0-6.

All-Big Dakota Conference Girls Basketball

Miller had three players (Morgan Kolda, Tyra Gates and Jaden Werdel) named to the squad.

Other honorees are Kinsey Evans and Jayna Handel of Chamberlain, Kharmon Wells of Crow Creek, Mari Richards of McLaughlin, Mariah Goehring and Charley Henderson of Mobridge-Pollock, Julise Shaw of Todd County and Keelie Kull and Kylie Sachtjen of Winner.

Honorable-mention selections include Mattie Duffy, Morgan Hoffman and Cadence Hand of Stanley County; Josey Kludt, Preslie Petersek and Karlee Brozik of Winner; Tiana Johnson of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte; Ronessa Sazue of Crow Creek; Anaya Mellette of McLaughlin; Emma Keller of Mobridge-Pollock; and Lesleen Makes Room For Them, Todd County.
