Conference Meet Roundup: Mount Gilead boys continue building track and field dynasty

FREDERICKTOWN — The Mount Gilead boys track team dynasty continues in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference, winning its sixth straight championship last week at Fredericktown.

The Indians are the only program to win a boys track title in the KMAC, and going back to their time in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference, they have won nine in a row and 10 of the last 11 league crowns.

Northmor didn't make it easy on the defending champs as MG prevailed, 150-136, over the Golden Knights. Cardington was seventh with 52 points.

Logan High and Will Baker led Mount Gilead with a pair of victories individually. High won the 100 meters in 11.26 and 200 in 22.82, while Baker took the 1600 in 4:28.45 and 3200 in 9:34.26. Teammate Tae Davis won the 110 hurdles in 16.11, while the 4x800 relay won in 8:14.23, and the 4x200 group won in 1:32.83.

Also scoring points in the top three for the Indians were Quade Harris (third, 400, 51.43), Parker Bartlett (second, 3200, 9:56.81), Wyatt Mowry (second, 300 hurdles, 41.67) and Joey Baldwin (second, shot put, 42-2.5).

Earning wins for Northmor were Cowin Becker in the 400 at 50.19, Ethan Amens in the 300 hurdles at 41.62 and Conner Stockdale in the long jump at 20-4. Three relays ended as runners-up as the 4x200 ran 1:34.03, the 4x400 ran 3:35.9 and the 4x800 ran 8:23.08.

Other top three scorers for the Knights were Ryan Lehman (second, 800, 2:04.87; third 1600 4:34.55; third, 3200, 10:11.36), Griffin Healea (third, 800, 2:05.3), Cade Miracle (third, pole vault, 12-0) and Becker (second, long jump, 20-0.75).

Aidan Reitmire won the 800 for Cardington in 2:01.87, while teammate A.J. Brehm was runner-up in the high jump at 5-10, and the Pirates' 4x400 relay was third in 3:38.63.

KMAC Girls

Mount Gilead made it a sweep in the KMAC as its girls team also won the title, scoring 140.5 points. Northmor was third at 86.5 and Cardington seventh at 46.

For the MG girls, it's their first KMAC championship since 2021. Since 2012, the Indians have won nine league titles going back to the MOAC.

Last week for MG, the 4x100 relay won in 53.03, the 4x200 won in 1:52.16 and the 4x800 won in 10:51.24. Individual winners were Danielle Pohlkotte in the high jump at 4-10 and Kimberly Staley in the 3200 at 12:23.16.

Scoring points in the top three for the Indians were Pohlkotte in the 200 in 28.4 for second, Staley in the 800 for third in 2:35.72, Staley in the 1600 for third in 5:40.11, Darbie Dillon in the 100 hurdles in 17.89 for second, Dillon in the 300 hurdles in 52.91 for third and Abby Leonhard in the discus at 107-7 for third.

Northmor's 4x400 relay won in 4:28.15. Also for the Knights, Haylee Walker was second in the 100 at 13.19, Natalie Hunter third in the 400 at 1:03.4, the 4x100 relay third in 56.34 and Macie Witherall third in the long jump at 14-6.25.

Cardington's Magi Hallabrin won the 800 in 2:32.79, was second in the 1600 in 5:35.38 and took third in the 3200 in 13:26.84. Alexis Longsdorf was third in the high jump for the Pirates at 4-8.

NWCC Girls

Waynesfield-Goshen won the Northwest Central Conference girls title in track and field with 134.5 points, while Elgin was fourth at 78 and Ridgedale fifth at 57.

Elgin had a pair of conference champions with Addison Holland winning the 100 in 13.34 and Hanah Rhoades winning the discus in 87-2. Holland was runner-up in the high jump at 4-10 as was Abigail Seiter in the discus at 86-11. Elgin's 4x200 relay was second in 2:00.51.

For Ridgedale, Maddie McKenzie won the 100 hurdles in 16.99 and was second in the 300 hurdles at 55.47. Hannah Murphy was third in the 100 hurdles at 19.00. Ridgedale's 4x100 team was second in 55.47, and its 4x200 was third in 2:00.73.

NWCC Boys

Cory-Rawson took the NWCC boys track and field title with 115 points. Ridgedale was fourth with 87.5 and Elgin eighth with 42.5.

Ridgedale's Brogan Weston was a double champ individually, winning the 1600 in 4:47.59 and 3200 in 10:42.56. Also winning for the Rockets were Isaac Lust in the 800 in 2:07.66 and the 4x800 relay in 8:38.05. The 4x100 team was second in 47.45, while the 4x400 team was third in 3:44.82. Picking up thirds for Ridgedale were Evan Ricketts in the 400 in 53.02 and Landon Murphy in the long jump at 20 feet.

Elgin's 4x200 squad was second in 1:39.61, and its 4x100 team was third in 48.63.

CBC Girls

North Union's girls were third with 78 points at the Central Buckeye Conference Meet at Benjamin Logan .

Gabby Lindsey led the Wildcats with a championship in the 400 at 1:00.14 and a pair of runners-up in the 200 at 26.41 and long jump at 17-3.75. The 4x800 team of Savannah Amstutz, Lindsey, Lauren Hall and Kennedy Ludwig won and set the Mad River Division record with a 10:13.19.

The 4x200 team was second in 1:53.81 and the 4x100 third in 54.53. Hall was third in the 3200 in 12:37.29, while Stella Hancock was seventh in the pole vault at 7-6, which is a school record.

CBC Boys

North Union's boys scored 68 points for fifth place at the CBC.

Picking up wins for the Wildcats were Griffin Osborne in the 100 at 11.41 and Tyler Huff in the 3200 at 10:27.66. Carter Skaggs was runner-up in the 110 hurdles at 15.77. Finishing third were Zach Meyer in the 800 at 2:07.32, Huff in the 1600 at 4:49.18, Wyatt Davis in the long jump at 20-9 and the 4x800 relay in 8:59.7.
