Compas leads Dalton State to road SSAC win over Middle Georgia

Jan. 14—Dalton State College's Matt Compas pointed the Roadrunners toward a road Southern States Athletic Conference win on Saturday.

Compas scored 20 as Dalton State (10-7, 6-4 SSAC) defeated Middle Georgia State (4-10, 0-8 SSAC) 77-71 in Cochran on Saturday.

Dalton State trailed 36-29 at halftime, but a 48-35 second half gave the Roadrunners the road win.

After halftime, Dalton State chipped down Middle Georgia's lead and a Compas basket at the 11 minute mark gave DSC its first second half lead at 50-49.

An Allon Johnson dunk a few minutes later gave Dalton State the lead for good. It spurred a 9-0 run that Kawasiki Ricks capped with a 3-pointer. Dalton State led by as many as 11 and kept the Knights at arm's length.

Dalton State shot 58.62% in the second half while pulling away from Middle Georgia, and Compas scored 16 of his team-high 20 after halftime. Compas also added four assists and four rebounds while going 8-for-12 from the floor.

Johnson scored 14 and grabbed four rebounds. Carterius Evans scored nine, Harrison Eghan had eight points and eight boards, while Ellis Lee scored eight. Ricks' 3-pointer marked his only points of the game, but he tallied a game-high six assists.

The Roadrunner defense also held the Knights to 31.58% shooting in the second half.

Pierles Brown led the game with 22 points for Middle Georgia, while Adarius Oliver had 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Roadrunners return home for a Saturday game at 2 p.m. against William Carey. Dalton State is looking to avenge an 86-83 road loss earlier this season.
