Comet junior Natalynn Beach wins Week 7 Athlete of the Week; Vote for Week 8 Now

HILLSDALE COUNTY — Congratulations to Jonesville junior Natalynn Beach on winning the Week 7 Athlete of the Week award.

Awards: Kutter VanAken wins Week 6 Athlete of the Week

Jonesville junior Natalynn Beach had a total of 21 blocks, helping the Comets win one of their weeknight matches and one of their quad matches at the Concord Invitational. Beach also added 16 kills, one ace, five digs and one assist at the Invitational.

Against Vandercook Lake, she helped her team win with five kills and one dig. Beach had 10 kills, one ace, five digs and one assist against Napoleon. Beach leads the team in total blocks this season.

Honorable mentions from week 7 included Ella O' Grady of Hillsdale Academy, Maggie Santure of Reading, Aaron Webb of Hillsdale, Nolan Grant of Hillsdale, Chloe Stalhood of Hillsdale, Lillian Jagielski of Pittsford, Thomas Holm of Hillsdale Academy, Ella Walton of Hillsdale Academy, Nicholas Fowler of Jonesville and Matias Marfil of Hillsdale.

Nicholas Fowler was voted the runner-up for Week 7. The Comet sophomore took third overall at the Addison dual to help his team win.

Athlete of the Week nominations can be submitted by coaching staffs by Sunday of each week. Coaches must include a stat line for each athlete and a short description for each nomination.

  • Ella Walton - Hillsdale Academy Girls Cross Country: Walton led the Academy girls team to their fourth consecutive SCAA championship. Walton led the girls team with a third-place finish, the best individual finish in her career. Walton had a time of 21:03.

  • Thomas Holm - Hillsdale Academy Boys Cross Country: Senior Thomas Holm ran a strong 16:48 to claim the individual SCAA boys title. Holm's win also helped the team capture their sixth consecutive SCAA boys title.

  • Brooke Smith - Pittsford Girls Cross Country: Pittsford senior Brooke Smith took down the competition at the SCAA championships where she claimed an individual SCAA title. Smith won the race with a time of 20:27.

  • Nolan Grant - Hillsdale Boys Cross Country: Hillsdale senior Nolan Grant took first place in the boys D3/D4 division with a time of 17:03. Grant has had three-straight finishes in the top three of his attended events. This is his first win this season since the season opening Hillsdale Invitational.

  • Halle Clark - Pittsford Volleyball: Pittsford senior Halle Clark helped her team capture the Silver Bracket championship at the Jonesville Think Pink Tournament. Clark finished the tournament with 23 kills, 14 blocks, 34 assist, 12 digs and seven aces. The team's tournament honoree was volleyball athlete Olivia Long's grandmother: Kathy Seal.

  • Alexis Ewing - Jonesville Volleyball: Jonesville senior Alexis Ewing helped the Comet volleyball team take the runner-up finish in the Gold Bracket of the Jonesville Think Pink Tournament. Ewing had 16 kills, nine aces, six blocks, 62 digs, 49 serve receives and two assists to lead the Comets

  • Ben Kunkel - Hillsdale Boys Tennis: Hillsdale senior Ben Kunkel led the Hornet boys tennis team at the regional finals with a second place finish in No. 4 singles. This was his first season of tennis for the Hornets, and it would also be his final season.

  • Annzley Francis - Hillsdale Girls Golf: Hillsdale senior Annzley Francis - team captain of the Hornet girls golf team - made her return to the courses after missing most of her final season of golf. She made her return to the Hornet golf team for the regional championships. Battling through her injury, she ended the day with an 11th place finish and a final score of 103 through 18.

  • Warrick Elder - Jonesville Boys Soccer: Jonesville senior Warrick Elder had six goals - including three in overtime - to help his team defeat Blissfield 8-5 in the district quarterfinals. The team was down 5-2 with 17 minutes left in regulation and Elder led the comeback to tie the game. This was Jonesville's first playoff win since 2016.

  • Alan Torres - Hillsdale Boys Soccer: Hillsdale junior Alan Torres helped second-year coach Garrett Collier and the Hornets win their district quarterfinal game against Quincy. The junior played lights out on defense, helping secure the 6-0 victory. Torres scored two goals and assisted on one goal.
