Colusa boys, girls basketball advance to D-IV semifinals

Feb. 19—Paved by four in double figures, the third-seeded Colusa High boys basketball team took out No. 6 Lassen, 66-49 Friday to advance to the final four of the Northern Section Division IV playoffs.

Seth Kalisuch led Colusa (22-6) with 15 points, while Landon Humphrey, Luke Kalfsbeek and Brayden Newgard each chipped in 14 to eliminate Lassen (15-14).

Colusa hits the road to take on No. 2 University Prep at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the D-IV semifinals. In the other semifinal, top-seed Gridley (20-6) hosts No. 4 Orland (18-10) at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The two semifinal winners will meet in the D-IV final at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Shasta College in Redding.

Division V

Eighth-seeded East Nicolaus had its run come to an end in the quarterfinals on Friday, falling to No. 1 Weed, 82-42.

Earlier in the week, East Nicolaus took out No. 9 Quincy at home, 58-38.

Jace Potter had 16 points, Davan Earhart 12, while Blake Lauppe and Mason Taylor each provided 10 in the win over Quincy.

East Nicolaus finished the season at 10-17.

Division IV girls

Third-seed Colusa got to the D-IV semifinals with a win over Gridley, 40-29 on Thursday.

Danica Chavez scored 14, while Olivia Huskey provided 11 against the Bulldogs (15-13).

The RedHawks (24-5) will play at No. 2 West Valley at 7 p.m. today in Cottonwood. In the other semifinal, No. 1 University hosts No. 5 Winters at 7 p.m. today.

The semifinal winners will meet in the D-IV girls championship at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shasta College.
