Columbus USA Swimming sectionals halted after medical emergency at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion

A medical emergency halted the USA Swimming Speedo Sectionals at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Ohio State's campus Sunday.

Ohio State University said a 15-year-old swimmer experienced a medical event in the pool Sunday and was attended to by lifeguards and on-site medical staff before being transported to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center by the Columbus Fire Department.

Columbus Fire confirmed transporting a patient in critical condition. The current status of the patient is unknown.

The patient was a member of OLY Swimming in Rochester Hills, Michigan, according to the organization's social media posts.

"We are grateful for the lifeguards, medical staff and OSU Natatorium staff who helped during this emergency," the post stated. "We ask that you continue to keep our OLY family in your thoughts and prayers."

OLY Swimming could not be reached for comment by the time of publication.

The 200 freestyle relay, 50 breaststroke, 200 IM, women's 1500 free, men's 800 free, 100 free and 400 medley relays were originally scheduled for Sunday night.

The USA Swimming Speedo Sectionals were in Columbus for the third time since 2015.

USA Swimming has not responded to questions about future scheduling of the event.
