Colts to sign two kickers to the practice squad

The Indianapolis Colts are signing kickers Chase McLaughlin and Lucas Havrisik to the practice squad, first reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

It was reported earlier Tuesday that the Colts were waiving kicker Rodrigo Blankenship following his erratic performance against the Houston Texans in Week 1.

With two kickers on the practice squad, the Colts will have to make some room. But this also indicates there will be a competition for the role throughout practice this week.

McLaughlin has experience with the Colts. He spent the final four games of the 2019 season with the team after Adam Vinatieri was placed on the injured reserve list. In 31 career games, McLaughlin has converted 37-of-49 (75.5%) of his field-goal attempts.

What’s odd about McLaughlin’s career are the splits. He’s just 10-of-21 (47.6%) on kicks between 40-49 yards but is 28/29 (96.4%) on all other kicks. The only miss in the latter group of attempts was a 62-yarder in 2020.

Havrisik went undrafted during the 2022 NFL draft but received an invite to the rookie minicamp earlier this offseason. During his time at Arizona State, he converted 34-of-53 (64.2%) field-goal attempts and 73-of-78 (93.6%) extra-point attempts.

Both McLaughlin and Havrisik have experience with kickoffs, something Blankenship didn’t have much of during his time with the Colts.
