Colorado State football adds 2024 trip to Oregon State as two games shift in schedule shuffle

A significant shuffle to the 2024 Colorado State football schedule was announced Thursday.

Two road games were changed as part of the Mountain West's reconstruction of the schedule to add in Pac-12 leftovers Oregon State and Washington State.

The Rams will now play at Oregon State and at Nevada in 2024. CSU will no longer have road games at San Diego State and at Boise State.

The Oregon State game will not count as a Mountain West game. CSU and all MW teams will play seven league games as the conference added Oregon State and Washington State in a scheduling alliance as those two seek a long-term solution following the collapse of the Pac-12. Each MW school had a game against Oregon State or Washington State added to the 2024 schedule.

From a competitive standpoint, it's likely a positive set of changes for CSU. A trip to Boise State has never proved successful for CSU and playing at Nevada is seemingly a more winnable game.

Oregon State is No. 19 in the College Football Playoff rankings, but the Beavers are in an offseason of uncertainty with coach Jonathan Smith off to Michigan State and QB DJ Uiagalelei in the transfer portal. CSU was scheduled to play at Oregon State in 2020 but the game didn't happen due to COVID restrictions.

CSU's home MW slate appears advantageous, and the Rams will be happy to not have any of those games swapped out.
