Colorado reportedly showing interest in Belmont transfer sharpshooter Cade Tyson

After missing out on former Northern Colorado star Dalton Knecht last offseason, the CU Buffs are currently eyeing another transfer portal sharpshooter from a smaller Division I men’s basketball program.

Belmont guard/forward Cade Tyson, the younger brother of recent Denver Nuggets draft pick Hunter Tyson, entered the portal on Monday and has already drawn interest from Colorado, according to Trent Markwith of Relentless Hoops.

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound North Carolina native averaged 16.2 points this season while shooting 46.5% from deep. Considered as one of the top available transfers, Tyson enjoyed nine games with at least four 3-pointers made in 2023-24.

Markwith’s report mentioned the Buffs as one of 14 teams that have either contacted or inquired about Tyson. Other noteworthy seekers include Kansas, Oregon, Miami, Texas, Indiana and UCF.

Colorado head coach Tad Boyle doesn’t frequent the transfer portal, but he’ll likely have open scholarship spots available with Tristan da Silva, Luke O’Brien and possibly Cody Williams leaving Boulder. Plus, Colorado recently parted ways with former 2024 signee Doryan Onwuchekwa.

Looking at Tyson’s overall game, he could be an excellent replacement for da Silva.
