Colorado great Kennedy Leonard signs with New Zealand professional team

The overseas career of Kennedy Leonard will continue in New Zealand with the Mainland Pouākai.

According to the official team website, the Pouākai represent the “Upper South region in the GJ Gardner Homes Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa competition.”

Leonard played all four years of her college women’s basketball career at the University of Colorado and remains the program’s all-time assists leader with 664 from 2015-19.

Leonard spent the past two years playing in the Eurocup for the London Lions.

Another notable name joining the Pouākai for their 2023 season is Kiara Leslie, a former North Carolina State player who was the 10th overall pick in the 2019 WNBA draft.
