College hockey: Clarkson men's hockey edged by Brown in overtime for weekend split

Jan. 21—CLARKSON — The Clarkson men's hockey team wound up with a split decision this weekend.

A night after defeating Yale to move up in the standings, the Golden Knights were edged by Brown, 3-2, in overtime on Saturday in an ECAC Hockey game at Cheel Arena.

Max Scott scored the deciding goal 30 seconds into the extra session to lift the Bears (8-11-1, 6-7 conference) to the win.

Carter Rose and Noah Beck each scored a goal, with Beck tallying the tying goal while on the power play with 3:49 remaining in regulation for Clarkson (12-9-1, 6-3-1).

After Rose scored 7:34 into the game, Tony Andreozzi and Scott scored successive goals for Brown, with Scott providing the team with a 2-1 lead with a power-play with 1:14 left in the second period.

Ayrton Martino assisted on both goals for the Golden Knights.

Goalie Lawton Zacher made 29 saves to record the victory for Brown.

Austin Roden finished with 17 saves for Clarkson, which remains in second place in the conference.

On Friday, Cody Monds connected for a goal two minutes into the third period to put Clarkson ahead for a good in a 5-3 ECAC Hockey League victory over Yale at Cheel Arena.

Jesse Tucker followed with his second goal of the game, scoring at 7:29 of the third for the two-goal cushion. Anthony Romano added an empty-net goal with 51 seconds left.

Clarkson traded shorthanded goals with Yale in the second period as Ryan Richardson put the Knights ahead 2-1 while down a man at 5:13 of the second period before Yale's William Dineen connected unassisted on a shorthanded tally to tie the game.

Richardson added three assists for the Golden Knights.

Dineen scored twice for the Bulldogs (7-11, 5-7) and Niklas Allain supplied the game's first goal for Yale.

Brady Parker made 13 saves in net for Clarkson. Nathan Reid stopped 16 shots for Yale.

ST. LAWRENCE 2, BROWN 1

Jan Lasak's goal 54 seconds into the final period proved to be the game-winner as St. Lawrence claimed a hard-fought ECAC Hockey clash against Brown at Appleton Arena in Canton on Friday.

The Saints broke a scoreless tie when Justin Paul connected 17:33 into the second period with Mason Waite and Felikss Gavars assisting. Lasak then gave SLU (6-12-3, 4-4-1) a 2-0 lead on an assist from Tucker McIntosh.

Brown cut the lead at 17:22 of the third as Alex Pineau sent the only shot of the game to get past Saints goaltender Ben Kraws, who made 25 saves.

Lawton Zacher stopped 22 shots for the Bears (7-11-1, 5-7).

SUNY CANTON 4, WILKES 2

Brendan Morrow provided a goal and two assists and goalie Trey Miller made a career-high 48 saves as SUNY Canton won the nonleague game against Wilkes College in Canton on Friday.

Jack Seamans, Scott Cremen and Nick Herringer each added a goal for the Kangaroos (7-13-1). Herringer and Cremen each contributed an assist and Evan Pringle assisted on two goals.

Steven Spetz and Joe Johnson scored for Wilkes (11-6).

ST. LAWRENCE 4, YALE 2

Balanced scoring and a game-winning goal from Greg Lapointe in the third period lifted the Saints to victory over the Bulldogs in an ECAC Hockey game at Appleton Arena on Saturday.

LaPointe scored the deciding goal 1:57 into the third period to provide St. Lawrence (7-12-3, 5-4-1) with a 3-2 lead and Nicholas Trela added a goal.

Tomáš Mazura and Reilly Moran also scored for the Saints and Philippe Chapleau recorded a pair of assists.

Goalie Ben Kraws made 17 saves to register the win for St. Lawrence.

David Andreychuk and David Chen each scored a goal for Yale (7-12, 5-8) and goalie Jack Stark finished with 25 saves.

SUNY CANTON 5, SUNY POTSDAM 0

Senior Nic Herringer scored two goals and freshman Trey Miller made 39 saves as Kangaroos defeated the Bears in a nonconference game in Potsdam on Saturday.

Evan Pringle tallied a goal and two assists for SUNY Canton (8-13-1) and Colton Sipperley contributed a goal and an assist.

Trey Miller made 39 saves for SUNY Potsdam (5-12-1).

WOMEN'S HOCKEY

CLARKSON 4, YALE 1

Anne Cherkowski led a three-goal burst in the third period for the Golden Knights as it gained an ECACHL victory against the Bulldogs in New Haven, Conn., on Friday.

Cherkowski broke a 1-1 tie with a goal at 13:18 of the third. Dominique Petrie, who assisted on the goal, then connected on her second goal of the game at 17:50. Jenna Goodwin added a goal 40 seconds later for Clarkson (22-1-2, 11-1-1).

Gracie Gilkyson scored at 7:50 of the second period to tie the game for Yale (10-10, 7-6).

Goalie Michelle Pasiechnyk stopped 25 shots for the Golden Knights.

ST. LAWRENCE 4, BROWN 0

Abby Hustler assisted on three goals, achieving her 100th career point in the process, as St. Lawrence blanked Brown in an ECACHL game in Providence, R.I., on Friday.

Hustler assisted on goals by Anna Segedi, Rachel Bjorgan and Aly McLeod. Bjorgan's shot came with SLU shorthanded. Bjorgan also assisted on Kennedy Wilson's goal.

Emma-Sofie Nordström turned away 26 shots in goal as the Saints (17-8, 10-3) recorded the shutout. Kaley Doyle made 33 saves for the Bears (8-11-1, 4-8-1).

SUNY CANTON 3, SUNY POTSDAM 0

Kyra O'Keefe snapped a scoreless tie with a goal off assists from Chamonix Jackson and Jordan Caroccio 15 minutes, 46 seconds into the second period to spark the Kangaroos in their SUNYAC shutout of the Bears in Canton on Friday.

Danika Lalonde and Riley Andzel followed with third-period goals for SUNY Canton (11-6, 5-5). Iida Laitinen assisted on both goals.

Anna Maulson made 27 saves in goal in the shutout. Parent Magalie made 39 saves for Potsdam (6-9, 2-7).

CLARKSON 4, BROWN 2

Sena Catterall scored a pair of goals to spark the Golden Knights past the Bears to win an ECAC Hockey League game in Providence, R.I., on Saturday.

Nicole Gosling and Anne Cherkowski each tallied a goal and an assist for Clarkson (23-1-2, 12-1-1).

Goalie Julia Minotti made 17 saves to record the win for the Golden Knights.

Kaley Doyle made 32 saves for Brown (8-12-1, 4-9-1) and Ava DeCoste totaled a goal and an assist.

ST. LAWRENCE 4, YALE 2

Abby Hustler scored two goals and assisted on another, Aly McLeod recorded three assists and Anna Segedi added a goal as their line continued their strong play and powered the Saints to victory over the Bulldogs in an ECAC Hockey game on Saturday in New Haven, Conn.

Julia Gosling added a goal for St. Lawrence (18-8, 11-3).

Goalie Emma-Sofie Nordström made 30 saves, including 15 in the third period, to record the win.

Pia Dukaric finished with 24 saves for Yale (10-11, 7-7).

SUNY POTSDAM 2, SUNY CANTON 1

Graduate student forward Megan Teachout scored twice, including tallying the deciding goal with 8:52 remaining in regulation, to lift the Bears to victory over the Kangaroos in a nonleague game in Potsdam on Saturday.

Goalie Magalie Parent made 27 saves to post the win for SUNY Potsdam (7-9, 3-7).

Danika Lalonde supplied a goal for SUNY Canton (11-7, 5-6) and Anna Maulson finished with 19 saves.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

RIT 67, CLARKSON 57

Keegan Ocorr and Chase Dickens produced 19 points apiece and the RIT defense held Clarkson to a season-low scoring total in a Liberty League game in Potsdam on Friday.

Josiah Turner added 11 points for the Tigers (9-6, 5-3).

Frankie Rainville scored 12 points for Clarkson (10-5, 4-4) and Jack Dalgety contributed 10. Traditional high scorers Braeden Burns and Ryan Miles-Ferguson were held to nine points apiece.

ST. LAWRENCE 79, HOBART 52

Adam Dudzinski delivered 17 points and Andrew Cowan 16 as St. Lawrence sailed to an early lead en route to a decisive win over Hobart in a Liberty League game in Canton on Friday.

St. Lawrence (10-4, 6-2) outscored Hobart (12-4, 5-4) by 43-21 in the first half. Trey Syroka added 13 points and Aidan Macaulay scored 12 for the Saints.

Carter Meshanic scored 15 points for the Statesmen.

SUNY NEW PALTZ 74, SUNY POTSDAM 52

Dakoda Smith finished with 17 points and Alex Krupinski scored 16 in SUNY New Paltz's SUNYAC victory over SUNY Potsdam in New Paltz on Friday.

Jeff Williamson scored 14 points for Potsdam (3-12, 2-6), Parker Kelly added 10 and Colton Huestis nine.

ST. LAWRENCE 76, RIT 60

Adam Dudzinski registered his second straight game posting 17 points, and this time added 14 rebounds for a double-double as won their fifth straight game by defeating the Tigers in a Liberty League game on Saturday in Canton.

Gavin Macaulay's 18 points were a team-high for St. Lawrence (11-4, 7-2) with Trey Syroka adding 14 of his own.

Josiah Turner scored 20 points to lead RIT (9-7, 5-4) and Brody Brown and Kenny Wilburn each contributed 15 points.

HOBART 79, CLARKSON 77

Ryan Miles-Ferguson scored 24 to lead four starters in double figures, but the Golden Knights were a basket short against the Statesmen, falling in a Liberty League game on Saturday in Potsdam.

Steve DeRegis generated 14 points for Clarkson (10-6, 4-5) and Braeden Burns and Jack Dalgety each chipped in with 13 points.

Aidan Rodgers scored 22 points to pace Hobart (13-4, 6-4) and Isaiah Washington finished with 17 points

SUNY MORRISVILLE 105, SUNY CANTON 71

Nokio Kennedy scored 17 points and Daimarr Miller generated 13 points as the Mustangs (16-2, 7-0) cruised to victory over the Kangaroos in an NAC game on Saturday in Morrisville.

Eli Larson scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds for SUNY Canton (8-12, 3-4)and Brennan Harmer chipped in with 12 points.

SUNY ONEONTA 92, SUNY POTSDAM 60

Elijah Castillo poured in a game-high 25 points and hauled in 10 rebounds and Graham Wooden generated 17 points to pace the Red Dragons (7-9, 4-4)to a SUNYAC victory over the Bears on Saturday in Oneonta.

Colton Huestis scored 18 points to lead SUNY Potsdam (3-13, 2-7).

Also on Saturday, Broome Community College defeated Jefferson Community College, 84-75.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

EAST NAZARENE 80, SUNY CANTON 68

Anaira Ayala and Alexandria Paquet combined for 50 points to lead East Nazarene over SUNY Canton in a key North Atlantic Conference game in Canton on Friday.

Ayala scored 26 points and Paquet 24 for the Lions (10-8, 5-4). Molly Smith added 10 points.

Torie Moore paced the Kangaroos (14-4, 6-2) with 16 points. Sierra Pabo added 13 and Samantha Dayter 12. Jayda Pina scored 10 for the Roos.

SUNY NEW PALTZ 64, SUNY POTSDAM 55

Brianna Fitzgerald scored 16 points and Jenny Walton 12 as SUNY New Paltz held off SUNY Potsdam in a SUNYAC game in New Paltz on Friday.

Abby Korzekwinski added nine points and eight rebounds for the Hawks (11-3, 6-1), who took a 37-26 lead at halftime.

SUNY Potsdam's Jakia Howard scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds. She moved into fifth place on the Bears' all-time scoring list with 1,058 points.

RIT 74, CLARKSON 63

Ansley Orrell hit for 23 points to help the Rochester Institute of Technology overcome a one-point halftime deficit and surge past the Golden Knights in a Liberty League game in Potsdam on Friday.

Ella Wilson contributed 13 points, Faye Kaplinski 11 and Lila McGuiggan 10 for the Tigers (6-9, 5-3).

Former Northern Athletic Conference players Raelin Burns and Bella Doyle each scored 16 points to lead Clarkson (3-12, 1-7). Cassidy Dumont added 13.

WILLIAM SMITH 73, ST. LAWRENCE 58

Brooke Jarvis scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures in William Smith's Liberty League victory over St. Lawrence in Canton on Friday.

Ava Lobozzo added 14 points and Molly Walsh and Miranda Martin each scored 12 for the Herons (3-13, 3-6), who trailed 23-15 after one quarter before taking the lead in the third quarter.

Annie Perry and Elizabeth Flynn scored 13 points apiece for the Saints (5-9, 4-4).

ST. LAWRENCE 50, RIT 47

Elizbeth Flynn engineered a double-double, scoring 19 points to go along with 13 rebounds to lead the Saints (6-9, 5-4) to a Liberty League triumph over the Tigers on Saturday in Canton.

Emma Waite scored nine points to pace RIT (6-10, 5-4).

WILLIAM SMITH 73, CLARKSON 56

Brooke Jarvis generated 16 points and 16 rebounds to post a double-double and Amelia McCulley scored a game-high 18 points to pace the Herons past the Golden Knights in a Liberty League game in Potsdam.

Mara Bledsoe added 13 points for William Smith (4-13, 4-6).

Raelin Burns and Cassidy Dumont supplied 16 and 15 points, respectively, for Clarkson (3-13, 1-8) and Addie Kea added 11 points.

SUNY CANTON 69, SUNY MORRISVILLE 60

The Kangaroos outscored the host Mustangs by 11 points in the second quarter and finished the game strong to record an NAC victory on Saturday.

Torie Moore scored 22 points and seized 13 rebounds to post a double-double for SUNY Canton (15-4, 7-2) and Sierra Pabo supplied 15 points.

Brooke Hammersley tallied 22 points to pace SUNY Morrisville (6-13, 4-4).

SUNY ONEONTA 53, SUNY POTSDAM 45

Amanda Zuntag scored 12 points and Jenna Harclerode provided 11 points to pace the Red Dragons (6-9, 4-4) to victory over the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Oneonta on Saturday.

Jakia Howard totaled 15 points and eight rebounds for SUNY Potsdam (6-9, 2-7) and Jenna Cotter and Barbara Bruno each added 10 points.
