College field hockey: Bates pays tribute to Lewiston, then bounces Bowdoin in 2OT in NESCAC quarterfinals

Oct. 31—LEWISTON — Maria Femia played the hero for Bates College, which honored its host city before the game, then knocked off its biggest rival in a 2-1, double-overtime victory over Bowdoin in a NESCAC field hockey quarterfinal Tuesday at Campus Avenue Field.

Femia scored the game-winning goal — her eighth of the season — to send the third-seeded Bobcats (12-4) to the semifinals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament for the first time in program history. Bates will match up against No. 4 Williams on Saturday. The sixth-seeded Polar Bears dropped to 10-6 with the loss.
