Coldwater's Austin voted as TDR Athlete of the Week
Another week has passed us by here in the 2023 Spring Sports season and with that comes the announcement of another The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week as chosen by you the readers. This week you the reader’s had your say so congratulations goes out to Coldwater track and field star Kendall Austin, this week’s The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week as sponsored by ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital, Omega Physical Therapy, and Coldwater Chiropractic and Wellness Center.
Austin earned the nod this week with 34% of the vote, the top vote getter out of eight different nominees.
Austin was honored for his work with Coldwater track and field, most notably for his work in the hurdle events. Last week in a double dual versus Marshall and Pennfield, Austin swept the hurdle events, winning the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.75 seconds while also winning the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 46.15 seconds. Austin was also a part of the winning 400-meter relay team and took second place in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 10 inches, a new personal best jump. This week Austin added to his already impressive season, taking second place in the 110 hurdles and in the long jump in a double dual versus Parma Western and Northwest.
Finishing in second place in this week’s Athlete of the Week voting is Bronson tennis ace Kayden Alli who received just over 21% of the vote. Alli was nominated and ultimately honored for her efforts at the SMITL League Championship where she brought home the Vikings lone conference championship, winning the title at number one singles.
Also earning votes but falling just a little short were Coldwater softball’s Mackenzie Scheid; Union City baseball’s Ryan Zweng; Quincy baseball’s Brady Mescher; Coldwater track’s Elli Foley; Athens’ softball Sarah Roe; and Quincy softball’s Payton Gross.
