Coldwater Tennis sweeps Marshall on Purple Night

COLDWATER – The Coldwater Cardinal tennis team played host to their rivals from Marshall earlier this week to celebrate Purple Week, a weeklong fundraising event with all proceeds going towards cancer research and treatment in and around Branch County.

Coldwater did not disappoint the home crowd, as the Cardinals swept Marshall by the score of 8-0.

In singles action it was Dawson Brown defeating Marshall’s Landon Fazekas at number one singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-0; number two singles player Eric Rucker defeating Marshall’s Xavier VanDerMoortel by scores of 6-0 and 6-0; Grady Brockway at number three singles taking down Marshall’s Jack Marsh by scores of 6-0 and 6-0; and Joe Searls winning over Marshall’s Luke Bierbaum at number four singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

In the doubles flights it was the number one doubles team of Evan Poradzisz and Claudel Wischmeyer winning by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 over Hazen and Parks; at number two doubles it was the team of Logun Fisher and Sam Larr defeating the Marshall team of Coats and Bowman by scores of 6-3 and 6-3; the number three doubles team of Tucker Wischmeyer and Jakob Hamacher winning over the Marshall team of Hill and Rowe by scores of 6-1 and 6-3; and the number four doubles team of Cayden Wood and Carson Snyder defeating the Marshall team of Walker and Scott by scores of 6-1 and 6-1.

In JV action the Cardinals managed a 3-3 stalemate with the Redhawks.

Taking singles wins for the JV Cardinals were Anthony Stevens who won 6-0 and Kush Patel who won 6-2, while Logan Kirk dropped his singles match 2-6.

In JV doubles action the team of Caelan Byrne and Krish Patel won in an exciting 7-6 tiebreak while the teams of Zach Robison and Gabe McCowan and Caleb Snyder and Max Garn dropped their matchups.

Coldwater is now 4-2-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Interstate 8 conference.
