Coldwater soccer drops I-8 finale to Lumen Christi

COLDWATER, MI. - The Coldwater Lady Cardinal soccer team dropped their Interstate 8 conference finale Wednesday night, falling to Jackson Lumen Christi by the score of 5-0.

Wednesday’s match up was the final regular season conference meeting between any Coldwater and Jackson Lumen Christi team as the Titans will officially leave the Interstate 8 conference and move to the Catholic High School League (CHSL) for all sports beginning next season.

In the final meeting between the two teams the night belonged to Lumen Christi as the Titans held Coldwater off the scoreboard for the 5-0 shutout win.

Lumen Christi found the scoreboard early in the first half to lead 1-0, a lead they would hold throughout the first half and into the halftime break.

Coldwater looked to attack out of the break however the Lumen Christi defense was up to the task, largely keeping the Cardinals out of the offensive zone. Lumen Christi finally broke through with another goal, adding to their lead with 27:15 left in the game as Cody Ruge found the back of the net to push the Titans lead to 2-0.

Coldwater continued to look for their opening on offense however the Titan defense continued to stifle any Cardinal charge, keeping the home team off the scoreboard.

Lumen Christi added to their lead with 14:17 left in the game on a beautiful header by Kathleen Doane off a Titans corner kick, extending the lead to 3-0.

Coldwater keeper Izzie Pool continued to play solid ball in goal, making several spectacular saves as the Titan offense continued to probe into the Cardinal defense.

Lumen Christi went on to add two more goals as Camy Crandall chipped a shot just past the outstretched arms of Pool with 9:53 left in the game, followed by an insurance goal with just over a minute left in the game, finding the final score of 5-0.

Coldwater goalkeeper Izzie Pool played solid in goal, making several big saves throughout the game despite the loss.

The Coldwater Lady Cardinal soccer team will return to the pitch next Monday for a trip to Brooklyn Columbia Central for their final regular season game of the season. The Cardinals will follow that up with a home match up in the first round of the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) District tournament as they will host the top seed from Gull Lake next Wednesday.
