Coldwater golf takes fourth at I-8 Jamboree; Tennis sweeps Pennfield

HASTINGS — The Coldwater Lady Cardinal varsity golf team traveled to Hastings on Wednesday for the second Interstate 8 conference jamboree of the season.

Coldwater finished in fourth place out of seven teams with a score of 481. Harper Creek ran away with the victory, besting the field with a score of 259, followed by Parma Western in second place with a score of 406. Hastings finished in third place with a score of 466, followed by Coldwater. Marshall finished in fifth place, followed by Northwest and Pennfield.

Taking the overall individual victory was Parma Western’s Gabriella Davis who fired a 78, followed by Mallory Flanders of Harper Creek with an 84, and Coldwater’s Hailey Price in third place with an 88.

Also competing well for Coldwater was Claire Hawver with a 130; Drew Sharpley with a 131; McKinley Earles with a 132; and Etta Machan with a 153.

Coldwater tennis sweeps Pennfield in Interstate 8 action

COLDWATER – As part of Purple Week, the Coldwater tennis team defeated Pennfield 8–0.

Coldwater swept the singles flights in quick fashion, as Dawson Brown took a win at No. 1 singles over Bec Doviak by scores of 6-1 and 6-2; Eric Rucker won at No. 2 singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-1 over Treven LeBreton of Pennfield; and Grady Brockway defeated Pennfield’s Noah Hammond at No. 3 singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-0. Coldwater’s Joe Searls took home the forfeit win at No. 4 singles.

Coldwater also had little trouble in the doubles portion of the event, sweeping all four flights.

Leading the way for Coldwater was the No. 1 doubles team of Claudel Wischmeyer and Evan Poradzisz who won over the Pennfield team of Michael and Lambeth by scores of 6-3 and 6-3; the No. 2 doubles team of Sam Larr and Logun Fisher who won over Pennfield’s LeBreton and Stacy in three sets, taking the third set tiebreaker 11-9 to win by scores of 4-6, 6-1 and 11-9; the No. 3 doubles team of Tucker Wischmeyer and Jakob Hamazher who won over Pennfield’s Franks and Myers by scores of 6-2 and 6-0; and the No. 4 doubles team of Cayden Wood and Carson Snyder who won in straight sets over the Pennfield team of Demerse and Taylor by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.

With the win Coldwater improves to 5-2-1 overall on the year and 3-0 in the Interstate 8.
