Cobras earn seventh seed in national tournament

Nov. 1—The Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute volleyball team will be the No. 7 seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Volleyball National Tournament and will face No. 10 Dallas College-Brookhaven in the tournament's opening round at noon on Nov. 9 at the Alliant Energy Power House in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Caldwell (21-5 overall) earned its way into the tournament as an automatic qualifier by winning the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District Championship.

Dallas College-Brookhaven (13-5) earned an at-large bid. Despite a losing record, the Bears closed the season strong after finishing third in last season's national tournament.

Dallas-Eastfield (30-0) earned the overall No. 1 seed for the tournament.

The winner of the Caldwell and Dallas College-Brookhaven match will face the winner of No. 2 Owens (17-10) against No. 15 Raritan Valley (29-4) on Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m.

The losing teams will play in the consolation bracket at 11 a.m. on Nov. 10.

The NJCAA Division III National Tournament will take place from Nov. 9 to Nov. 11.

Sixteen teams qualified for the tournament field, with 12 earning automatic qualifiers from winning district tournaments, while four teams earned at-large bids.

The tournament has a consolation-elimination format, with each team guaranteed to play at least two matches.
